The making of a monument

The Making Of ULU KORA

Fragments from the making of a new large sculpture, the National Molucan Monument.
Working in polystyrene allows me to move fast. I’m cutting, removing, searching for balance and movement until the figure starts to emerge from the mass.

Every sculpture begins in chaos before form, tension and character appear. What you see here are moments from that raw phase. It’s all about decisions, corrections, intuition, and sometimes simply attacking (hence the knife! 🙂 )the material to push the work forward.

Here the piece is still evolving. Follow along to see how it transforms from rough structure to a finished timeless bronze monument in beautiful bronze!
